Racer Session #579 | James Falzone | Sunday April 21, 2024

Describing the work of a modern musician can be a complex business. For an artist like James Falzone, genres and categories are porous. In short, James is a clarinetist, penny whistle player, composer, improviser, and educator who works at the intersection of jazz, classical and world music traditions. But the story is so much more interesting than that, as they often are. James is no stranger to the session, and therefore likely no stranger to you. But whether you know him or not, we encourage you to come and check it out!

James will be joined by dancer and choreographer Giordana Falzone for this session. Interested in moments that are alive and ever changeable, she seeks to explore the melody of the body and mind through physical rigor, imagination, duration, & multiplicity. Her creative work finds form in collaborative performances and film, utilizing improvisational choreographies and scores.

“Racer Sessions means a great deal to me. It was my introduction to Seattle as a guest before I moved to town, and has been a steady companion since 2016. I’ve found it a place to try out new concepts, meet new people, sit, listen, and learn. My respect for the founders and those that have been its stewards over the years is profound. While I am sorry to see it end, the sounds linger in all of us.

”As a final performance on the series, I continue my tradition of trying out a new concept, this time with my daughter Giordana Falzone, someone I’ve watched grow into a remarkable dancer, choreographer, and improviser. While we have worked together before, it is our debut as a duo. We are family, yes, but we are also (simply) two artists searching for sounds, silence, space, and movement.” - James Falzone
